KILLS GERMS NOT HANDS ™
Why Use High-Strength Hand Sanitizer?
You’ll notice many hand sanitizers being sold contain only about 62-65% ethanol (ethyl alcohol) - the active germ-killing ingredient. Many of them also smell terrible and feel slimy on your hands. Shortcuts like these can save on manufacturing costs, but they often barely meet Health Canada and WHO guidelines for effective hand sanitization products – and quite frankly, they suck. Copperpenny is out to change that.
Our locally made Copperpenny Hand Sanitizer simply Kills Germs, Not Hands.
Authorized by Health Canada
Craft distilleries are experts at working with alcohol that is safe for human use, as well meeting the germ-killing standards required by Health Canada during this time of need. All producers of approved Canadian hand sanitizers must display a valid Natural Product Number (NPN) issued by Health Canada on every container to ensure continued hand sanitizer safety. You’ll see our Copperpenny Hand Sanitizer on the Health Canada website registered under NPN # 80100344
Your skin is your body’s largest organ and can absorb toxic elements found in lotions, liquids and ambient vapours in the air. Over 100 hand sanitizer product recalls have been issued in Canada since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Recalls are often issued for poor quality sanitizers if “industrial or technical” grade ingredients being used – these may contain toxic-to-human compounds like methanol, ethyl acetate, and worse. Symptoms can include rashes, headaches, and airway irritation – and even hospitalization.
Good quality ingredients cost a bit more, but the saying “you get what you pay for” holds true here. If you wouldn’t drink toxins, don’t put them on your skin.
Never eat or drink hand sanitizers as ingesting even small amounts can be dangerous or fatal.

99.99% Germ Killing Power
We use only premium quality raw ingredients like USP Food Grade Ethanol and naturally extracted juniper and lavender botanicals, blended to 80% alcohol by volume (ABV) for clinical strength sanitization. We want to help stop the spread of germs and viruses like COVID-19 so you can get back to work, keep your family safe, and come visit us at Copperpenny in 2021 for an amazing cocktail.
Born & bred North Vancouver locals, Copperpenny Distilling started out making a premium quality hand sanitizer to supply our friends in the “Hollywood North” film industry as they returned to work. It turned out that the demand for a superior hand sanitizer (everyone’s a critic now) was bigger than we thought, so we’re working closely with more local retailers and industry vendors that you know and trust.
Here are a few awesome Vancouver spots you can grab some Copperpenny Hand Sanitizer and more! If you have a business and would like to sell locally-made hand sanitizer, give us a shout – we’d love to add you to this list:
